OA gets film deal on first novel

Tom Rob Smith's (OA 1985-1995) first novel CHILD 44 has just been sold and the films rights bought by Ridley Scott. The book will be published next year by Simon and Schuster, and if all goes to plan the film goes into production next year too. The book is set in Stalinist Russia. His first experience of Russia was through a Dulwich College history trip.   • As a contrast to this, the film A Matter of Life and Death (1946) made by Old Alleynian, Michael Powell (1920-22), has been adapted for the stage by Emma Rice and Tom Morris and is in repertoire at the National Theatre. Leading clinical neuropsychologist, Dr Paul Broks, and Alexander Linklater of The Guardian, discuss the head injury which lies at the heart of A Matter of Life and Death, and its shattering consequences at 6pm on Thursday June 14th at the National Theatre in a pre-performance platform.
