  • I have to say I'm pleased because my two favourites are on the list - John Banville's The Sea (simply wonderful writing) & Kazuo Ishiguro's very original dystopian vision Never Let Me Go. I also really enjoyed Ali Smith's The Accidental, a rather unsettling tale. Interestingly, all three are by today's standards quite slim novels, unlike many of the other contenders. I'd love one of them to win - the triumph of quality over bulk?
